Understanding How the Built Environment Around TTA Stops Affects Ridership

In this 2006 UNC study of the TTA there is no mention of light rail between UNC & Duke. The study reached the conclusion that unless sufficient density exists, leveraging existing transit infrastructure is much more cost effective. The report says the focus of monies spent on transit should be on the improvement of safety, comfort, access and convenience both on and off the transportation medium, not the medium itself. Better stations, improved schedules, less waiting and fewer changes between transportation is the way to increase ridership and meet the stated goals of mass transit.
